WAAG Agility Dog Club trains at Southport Park formally known as James Overall Park, Southport- Gold Coast, Queensland. Southport Park is on Brighton Parade, just off the junction between the Gold Coast Hwy and Queen Street in Southport (see map below). The park runs along the foreshore on the Northern side of the Nerang River and has its own off-lead dog beach.


We train on Monday nights commencing at 6:00pm.

To train with WAAG you need to be a member.

Memberships

Membership is $40 and covers the calender year from January through to December. One membership covers all members of your family that may come with you to the grounds or who may wish to start agility with their dog too. Membership needs to be paid the night you commence training for insurance purposes. We welcome children from 10 years of age to train their dog.

There are three classes:

All sessions go for 1 hour and are available to all dogs over 10 months of age.


Beginners Class set up at 6:00 pm start time 6:30 pm
In this class we teach you as a handler how to train your dog to safely negotiate each piece of agility equipment.

Starters Class set up at 6:00 pm start time 6:30 pm
In this class you will be taught basic handling and running of small courses.

Intermediate Class set up at 7:30 pm start time 7:45 pm
These classes are for more advanced dogs and handlers.

PRICES: $10.00 per class (not per dog)

 

Handler Requirements

  • Flat/fixed collar and/or head halter. NO check chains or pinch collars permitted
  • Leash
  • Treat pouch
  • Lots of your dog's favourite food treats cut into very small pieces
  • Your dog’s favourite toy, regardless of how old, dirty or strange that toy is
  • Tug toy – this can be purchased from the club if you don’t have one
  • Water bowl
  • Dog crate (if you have one)
  • Handler should wear suitable clothing and footwear, i.e. closed in shoes, no thongs or sandals

Ground Rules

  • All dogs to be on leash or crated at all times unless approved by an instructor
  • No equipment is to be used, unless supervised by an instructor
  • Harsh handling will NOT be tolerated. This includes verbal and physical abuse
  • All faeces ANYWHERE on the grounds must be removed by the handler and placed in the bin
  • Handlers are responsible for their own dog(s) AT ALL TIMES
  • Handlers are to accept complete responsibility for any damage done to any person, dog or property, by their dog(s)
  • We reserve the right to refuse membership to an aggressive dog and restricted breed
  • We reserve the right to have a dog muzzled
  • All handlers are to help set up equipment prior to commencement of class and to put equipment away at the end of the class
  • Children under 10 years of age are NOT permitted in training area whilst classes are being conducted, and must be supervised at all time
